and take heed. Whether it be 'rivvum and bloos', 'tank pok',

fact that The Wildebeests, the band that features (ex)-members of the
MILKSHAKES, KAISERS and THANES, can knock any and all others off the
blocks anyday, anywhere, and at anytime.

2002 album of the Scottish beat legends the THANES, we can hardly find
the right words for it. The THANES have be around since 1987 and
certainly belong to the very few really important bands of todays
garage and beat scene. Hailing from Edinburgh, they have released tons
of records on the coolest labels around, such as SUNDAZED, CORDUROY,
MISTY LANE, LARSEN and DISTORTIONS to name but a few. The THANES of
this ultra-modern age conjure up ever more new and always interesting
twists and turns from their basic garage band vision. They are

It seems to us here that a few new bands are forming around Europe recently who are executing a wild take on 1960s rhythm and blues. From London we have King Salami & The Cumberland Three, who recently released their first single on Butterfly Records. In King Salami they have a fantastic showman (who passion and knowledge of r’n’b is exemplary) and a frantic backing band, all of whom have worked in several hot rockin' London combos over the past few years - and know how to put on a show.

Not to be outdone by their well-mannered mainland European countries, England has come forward, risen to the occasion, thrown down the gauntlet, and stepped up to the plate. Awash with the quality and quantity of the homegrown variety (where were you all when I was stuck there for four long years?) the Parkinsons can add their name to the ever-growing, prestigious list. Definite '77 vibes with garage styling; rawer than the Briefs, more controller than the Pokers, and a little touch of ew wave vibe as once mastered by the Exploding Hearts.

Influenced by wylde sounds of garage bands from the 60's and 80’s. They dig great ‘60s Garage bands like the Sonics, Seeds, 13th Floor Elevators, Count V, Kingsmen, Wailers and also dig a lot of bands from the ‘80s revival like the Fuzztones, Chesterfield Kings, DMZ, Gravedigger V, Tell-Tale Hearts or later on the Mummies, Cynics, Gruesomes etc.

If there is a contemporary band that sums up all the things that Shindig! loves and stands for, it would be The Thanes. For over twenty years they have been the real deal, a perfect blend of Edinburgh, Amsterdam and San Francisco style garage-beat.

Who are The Masonics? Are they the collective mothers of The Sonics? Well, no. They're a buncha Brits who dig all things garage and they've had loads of records out. So why should I buy this? Well, if you dig the sounds of '60s beat mixed with fuzztone garage, then you'll dig this. No question.
